The MPO TA Call For Projects is Now Open


The MPO is seeking project proposals for the Transportation Alternatives Program discretionary grant. This program is designed to fund bicycle, pedestrian and transit systems supporting transportation projects. To be considered for 2026 TA Grant funding please submit an application (linked below) by no later than Thursday April 30th 2026 at 5pm MT. Submittal instructions are included in the application.


Eligible active or alternative transportation projects include pedestrian, bicycle and transit facilities implementation, facility maintenance, and more. To see if your project is eligible, please review the Program Description and Eligible Activities document linked below. 


Projects that currently exist in the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) project list and are classified as recommended will be given priority for funding consideration. All projects will be scored using the following evaluation criteria: alignment with LRTP goals, project readiness, feasibility and funding contingency risk.


Anticipated federal funding for projects is $1.375 million through federal fiscal year 2026.  Projects awarded will be required to provide a minimum local match of 13.42% of total project budget.


All proposed projects must meet Federal and State guidelines for eligibility and must be submitted by an eligible applicant described as a local government agency in the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Planning Area, Federal or State agency.


Following the close of the Call for Projects on April 30th, 2026, the MPO will evaluate nominated projects using the evaluation criteria included in the Project Solicitation form. Additional information about TA funding and process is available on the Montana Department of Transportation, Transportation Alternatives Program webpage
